About Dr. Parks


Dr. Parks started working in the field of mental health in 1975. Before going back to school to pursue a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1981, she worked as both a Special Education Teacher and a Rehabilitation Therapist for the State of New York. Immediately after attaining her Ph.D. in Clinical/Developmental Psychology in 1988, she entered private practice as a Clinical Psychologist specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents.  In 1997 she moved to Carrboro, North Carolina where she started a new practice with a focus on helping adults and adolescents. In 2015 Dr. Parks obtained a Creativity Coaching Certification and began to specialize in helping Artists, Writers, Actors and Musicians to fulfill their creative potentials. She currently provides Creativity Coaching to both artists and non artists, both over the phone, internet and in person from her home office in Carrboro, North Carolina. She also provides Creative Expression Workshops for Adults on a regular basis.

Dr. Parks has a history of specialized training in the areas of: Psycho-educational and Psycho-diagnostic Testing, Clinical Child Psychology, Clinical Hypnosis, Family Therapy, EMDR, DBT Therapy, as well as a variety of Expressive Arts Therapies such as Art Therapy and Psychodrama. She has a long-standing research interest in the use of creativity and symbolic reasoning to solve complex psychological problems.  She has been certified by the National Register for Health Service Providers in Psychology since 1992, and is an active member of several professional organizations in the areas in which she practices. She has served on the board of the North Carolina Society for Clinical Hypnosis since 2012.

Her coaching and psychotherapy practices are both currently focused on working with adults who are interested in expanding their ability to live lives full of meaning, passion and joy.
